Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS)
View ICSS Training CatalogWhat are Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS)?
Intensive Crisis Stabilization Services (ICSS) are a continuum of services which support individuals and their families/caregivers in crisis to maintain an individual in their home or present living arrangement and avert psychiatric admission or other out-of-home placement. ICSS programs comprise a continuum of crisis care for all Michiganders with services working together to support the connection of individuals to resources after the crisis occurs. Each service must maximize natural and community supports in the provision of these services and maintain flexibility to prioritize the needs of the individual and their families/caregivers.

Key Features:
- Expand crisis care for all Michiganders.
- Provide crisis intervention to youth experiencing a crisis.
- Support individuals and their families/caregivers in crisis to maintain an individual in their home or present living arrangement.
- Avert psychiatric admission or other out-of-home placement.
- Connecting individuals and their families/caregivers to resources after the crisis occurs.
Training Process
This training is required for clinicians and staff that will serve as Crisis Professionals within a certified ICSS program. The training consists of 4 half day live-virtual trainings and one in-person training day. The in-person trainings will be held in various locations across the state.
Why ICSS Matters
ICSS programs are intended to avert psychiatric admissions and other out-of-home placements through supportive, timely behavioral health services, engagement with the individual and their parent/caregiver/family, and connections to resources. ICSS programs provide crisis care individualized to the beneficiary and can support diversion from emergency rooms and juvenile justice systems.
What You'll Learn in ICSS Training
The goal of the ICSS training is to provide youth-specific training to help guide ICSS service providers. This training organizes key skills and knowledge around five core components of crisis care: engagement, assessment, intervention, partnership, and an introductory understanding of crisis care. The two key outcomes that this curriculum will measure:
- Demonstrated understanding of the key skills and knowledge for effective ICSS youth mobile crisis care, including evidenced-based practices in engagement, assessment, and intervention.
- Increased confidence of staff to assist in effectively resolving youth crises in the community.
The impact of this training for providers will be that their ICSS teams will share a foundational knowledge that equips them to effectively adapt and use evidenced-based tools in a wide variety of situations to resolve crises in the community.
